Yoruba Nollywood actor Kazeem Abimbola Ibrahim, popularly known as Jigan Babaoja, has lost a multimillion-naira ambassadorial deal with Rods Hotel and Apartment due to his involvement in a controversial WhatsApp group chat.
Jigan was listed among celebrities accused of “pretending” to seek justice for the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad.
Social media activist Verydarkman (VDM) called him out over his alleged role in the group, prompting a heated exchange between the two online.
In a post shared online, Rods Hotel and Apartment announced the termination of its partnership with Jigan Babaoja as the hotel’s brand ambassador.
In the official statement, the company emphasized its commitment to integrity, justice, and the rule of law, expressing solidarity with the ongoing fight for justice for the late singer Mohbad. The statement further clarified that the decision was not intended to tarnish Jigan’s image or imply guilt in the allegations against him.
Further details revealed that the company had entered into a six-month contract with Jigan and was still in the early stages of the agreement. However, they opted to forfeit the financial investment rather than compromise the integrity and values of their brand.
Fans of the movie star expressed support for the company’s decision, applauding Rods Hotel for standing firm on principles of integrity and justice.
Many vowed to patronize the hotel whenever they visit Lagos, drawing parallels to how singer Zinoleesky lost show bookings during the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death.
