Popular Nigerian cleric, Johnson Suleman, has sparked controversy after stating that oral sex between a husband and wife is not a sin.
Suleman, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, made the comment during a question-and-answer session in a church service.
The church, which is headquartered in Edo State, is based in Nigeria’s South-South region.
The exact date of the church service remains unknown.
However, a video showing the cleric making the remarks was uploaded to YouTube on August 22, 2025.
During the service, a woman who appeared to be in her 50s read a question from a jotter:
“Daddy, Sir, is oral sex a sin?” she asked Mr. Suleman, who is fondly called “Daddy” by church members.
Her question drew murmurs from the congregation, while the cleric chuckled before responding.
“Anything you do with your wife indoors is not a sin. As long as she is your wife and both of you agree to it, it is not a sin,” Suleman replied.
His response again stirred murmurs among the members, prompting him to elaborate.
“I can show you from the Bible. When it talked about the wife of your youth, it said, ‘go within thy walls, let thy hands pass through her cisterns.’ What do you think that means? As long as it is not fetish, ritualistic, or diabolic, it is not a sin,” he argued.
He went on to dismiss claims by some Christians that oral sex is sinful because the mouth used in the act is the same used to pray and worship God.
“Don’t you use the same mouth to gossip? Don’t you use the same mouth to tell lies?” he asked rhetorically, switching briefly to Pidgin English.
Mr. Suleman later acknowledged that his remarks would draw criticism but stressed that he remained unfazed.
“Save your home, save your home,” he told the worshippers, suggesting couples should not refuse a request by their spouse for oral Watch the video below;
Also known as orogenital sex, oral sex involves the use of the mouth, lips, or tongue to stimulate a partner’s genitals or anus.
However, health experts warn that the practice carries risks.
“Oral sex has been linked to a higher risk of contracting Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in the mouth and an increased likelihood of developing HPV-related oral cancers,” said Adegboyega Fawole, a gynaecologist, in 2017.
Fawole, a professor at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, explained that HPV is responsible for nearly all cases of cervical cancer and can also cause genital warts and anal cancer.
