Ruth Otabor, a graduate of Auchi Polytechnic and sister to reality TV star Ijeoma Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has passed away.
Phyna confirmed her sister’s death in a statement shared on her official Instagram page today, August 31st, 2025.
The family has appealed to the public to respect their privacy as they grieve this loss.
The statement shared by Phyna reads; “We remain Solicitors to Ruth Otabor, Josephine Otabo (Whose moniker is Phyna) and the Otabor Family and have their instruction to inform the public this.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August 2025 at about 06:30.
“The Family is presently grieving and would appreciate being given a private moment to mourn the departed. The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course.”

Recall that Phyna’s sister, Ruth, was involved in a tragic accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, where she lost a leg after being hit by a Dangote truck allegedly driven by an underage and unlicensed driver.
Since the incident, Phyna has been demanding justice and accountability from the Dangote Group.
Although the company initially promised full support for Ruth’s treatment, including plans to fly her abroad for advanced care, Phyna later alleged that they failed to keep their commitment.
