Liberian President Joseph Boakai is facing backlash online after a new video surfaced showing him with U.S. President Donald Trump and other prominent dignitaries.
In the now viral clip that has stirred conversation online, the Liberian president addresses Trump as “Sir” after the United States of American president praised his use of English, a development that did not sit down well with many online users.
It all started when President Donald Trump, in a meeting with Liberian President Joseph Boakai, was shocked that an African president spoke good English and that was just the beginning.
Trump went on by asking, where did he learned to speak such good English, a subtle insult that reflects a deeper, long-standing pattern in how African leaders are addressed on the global stage.
However, what really sparked outrage was the moment the Liberian President responded to Donald Trump with “Sir” after Trump praised him for speaking English so well despite being born in an African country like Liberia.
Meanwhile, while many like Trump and others do not know, English is the official Language in Liberia.

Reactions as Liberian president uses “Sir” for Donald Trump
As expected, while some expressed their utmost displeasure at the Liberian president for using “Sir” for Donald Trump, others shared their contrary opinions.
kashflowworldwide: The president is saying yes sir Africa leaders something else.
__8a6 : Wait!! Is he saying yes sir 👂? Abi what am I hearing?
pbankz1230 : But imagine say na Bros T dem ask wer he learn hin own English from wetin baba go talk 😂 just asking for a grandma’s granddaughter’s grandson’s Inlaw’s brother’s sister 😂😂😂.
timeyinxo : Yes sir ke? Na why them colonize us be this kmt. I miss Tafawa Balewa and OG OBJ
dayoogedengbe: Let’s not get too triggered by this. Many of them genuinely don’t know much about Africa beyond the stereotypes pushed by Western media. Poverty, insecurity, and underdevelopment. So when they meet an African who speaks fluent English or seems well-exposed, it shocks them. Remember, English isn’t even our native language. Imagine meeting an American who speaks fluent Yoruba or Igbo or Swahili, you’d be surprised too. So honestly, their ignorance is more of a compliment than an insult.😁 That’s the way I see it👍😁.
joshua_obed10: I love the way the other man looking at him 😂😂.
max_olady : Libera was colonized by America so they speak American English Why then is trump surprise?
