Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has thrown a subtle jab at the Lagos State government after her teammates from Imo State were handsomely rewarded with cash and land by Governor Hope Uzodinma.
This comes after the Nigerian women’s national team secured their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title with a thrilling 3-2 win over Morocco.
In recognition of their achievement, President Bola Tinubu honoured each player with $100,000 and a three-bedroom apartment, according to the State House.
Governor Hope Uzodinma held a lavish reception at the Government House in Owerri to honour the seven Super Falcons players from Imo State.
The honoured players included Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini, Osinachi Ohale, Tochukwu Oluehi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Anam Imo, and Esther Okoronkwo. Each received ₦30 million and a plot of land in Owerri. Assistant coach Ann Chiejine was also recognized with a ₦10 million reward. Michelle Alozie, another Imo-born player, was notably absent due to her engagements in the U.S.
The governor commended their resilience and said their efforts had reignited a sense of national pride.
However, striker Asisat Oshoala has subtly reacted to Governor Uzodinma’s decision to reward only the Imo-born players.
The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year shared a cryptic message on Instagram, sparking speculation.
“My Imo sisters dey hot oo ….God abeg #Lagosian.”
