Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of violently assaulting crew members on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, has been arraigned in court and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
The development was confirmed on Monday by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, via a post on his official X handle.
“The more reason the flying public should be more careful, the unruly passenger on the Uyo–Lagos bound Ibom Air, Miss Comfort Emmanson, has been charged to court and she’s now cooling off in Kirikiri,”Moshood wrote.
Her arraignment stems from a widely publicized incident in which Emmanson allegedly yanked off a flight attendant’s wig, slapped her multiple times, assaulted another crew member, and tried to remove a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon. According to the airline, her actions endangered the safety of passengers, crew, and the aircraft.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has since reiterated its warning against disruptive behavior at airports and on flights, pledging stricter enforcement and harsher penalties amid a troubling rise in such incidents.
Reactions as Ibom Air passenger remanded in prison
adex_fejj: Yes, she should face the law…No doubt about that. But did you know that one of the hostesses on board intentionally took off her dress so that her breasts would show? Don’t you think that’s bad, or do we support that too?
kelechinwoko : Lol. So she can’t be forgiven like her senior brother?? The justice system of this our country is for we poor people. Very selective.
official_jubet_jay : I was on a flight where a woman was asked to turn off her phone during takeoff, as announced. She put it in airplane mode, which is common, but was caught filming. The crew told her to turn it off completely, but she refused, insisting airplane mode was enough. A nearby passenger urged her to comply, and she did. However, she turned it back on during landing, angering the crew. They reported her, and she was detained on the plane until everyone else disembarked. Frustrated, she argued she was being held hostage, filmed the situation, and slapped and pushed a woman blocking her. Security was called, and after filming her, they forcibly removed her from the plane as she resisted. Outside, she became more aggressive, fighting others and appearing disheveled.
thereal_fiwashola1 : First of all why did that woman stop her from coming out of the plane… I believe she is not a mad person sometimes most have provoked her to react like like, when no be say una wan kidnap her.
songsofmexis : Now you are sending her to jail. What about kwam1? Is he bigger than the law ?
