Funke Akindele, an award-winning filmmaker and Nollywood actress, has talked candidly about a very poignant time in her life, exposing the personal challenges she encountered while attempting to maintain her composure in the public eye.
Speaking in an interview shared by WithChude, Akindele recounted how the death of her mother, the breakdown of her marriage, and her political loss affected her.
“I do not like to mourn. I remember when my mom passed on, I just wanted to get over her quickly. I like to get out of situations quickly. I do not allow myself to break down and it affected me after my mom’s death. I almost died. My heart was aching.”
She further described how an online controversy pushed her to the edge. “Something happened online and for the first time, I took my phone and went live and said, ‘You all should leave me alone, I don’t know about this stuff. This person came to act in my movie, got paid and left. Why are you accusing me of something I didn’t do wrong? Do you know what I’m going through?’”
Akindele didn’t hold back in expressing the weight of the challenges she has endured. “I lost my mom, I lost my marriage, I lost in politics and I had to get back to work to earn a living. I have children I’m raising alone and you are stressing me. For the first time, I cried. I broke down for weeks. I was alone and I refused to eat.”
