Several reactions have started trailing a new video that shows the moment a Nigerian governor mistakenly wished President Tinubu instead of former President Buhari a RIP (Rest in Peace) message.
Recall that Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023, died in a London hospital on Sunday, 13 July 2025, after a prolonged illness.
Buhari was laid to rest on July 15th, 2025, at his hometown, Daura, in Katsina State, Nigeria in the presence of prominent figures.
However. Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has sparked a social media uproar after an embarrassing slip of the tongue in which he mistakenly implied that President Tinubu has passed away instead of late former president Buhari.
The incident happened during the Constitution Review Zonal Public Hearings held in Owerri on Saturday, July 19, where delegates from Imo and Abia States were in attendance.
While offering a solemn prayer, Governor Uzodinma seemed to mix up names and statuses, mistakenly referring to President Tinubu as deceased.
“May the soul of former President Bola…,” the governor began before briefly pausing. He then corrected himself: “Former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
The slip-up, which was caught on video, quickly went viral and sparked widespread reactions across social media.
Many Nigerians expressed shock at the blunder, noting that President Tinubu is very much alive and has recently appeared at several public events.
Critics condemned the error as insensitive and careless, especially coming from a sitting governor at a high-profile constitutional gathering.
