Superstar Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has responded after being criticized for celebrating World Cultism Day.

Today, July 7th, 2025, also known as 7/7 is known as Metal Day/World Cultism Day and by extension, it is being celebrated on the popular microblogging platform X formerly called Twitter.

However, Davido, the “With You” crooner, took to his official page on X to celebrate the day, as he tweeted, “Happy Metal Day”.

According to information online, Metal Day is celebrating the July 7, 1977, founding of the Neo-Black Movement (NBM), aka Black Axe confraternity “Metal” codes for their axe symbol.

Davido is reportedly associated with the group, attending events and using their lingo in songs like “FEM,” per multiple sources including Federal Character and Daily Post. NBM claims non-violence but is linked to crime.

Meanwhile, the above tweet of singer Davido did not sit down well with some online users as they took to the comment section to tackle the singer and even accused him of promoting cultism.

An online user identified as @vardysteveayo in a tweet that generated a significant contribution tweeted;

“I love Davido and all that. But I’ll say it again he’s always overdoing atimes. Today he’s actively encouraging and promoting cultism smh. omooo as for una wey be real fan make una continue dey defend some nonsense shey ee gbo.”
