Nigerian singer-songwriter Simi has issued a heartfelt plea to fans, asking them to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”

The music star, who famously released the hit single “Duduke” while pregnant with her child, expressed discomfort with how the nickname has stuck with many Nigerians, despite it not being her daughter’s name.

Speaking candidly, Simi explained that “Duduke” holds no actual meaning—it was simply the rhythm of the beat that inspired the title.

“People call my daughter Duduke which I don’t like. It doesn’t mean anything. As in if it means something good..

Although she acknowledged that the nickname often comes from a place of love, she admitted she doesn’t appreciate it.

“I get it; it’s coming from a good place, and I try not to react, but her name is Adejare,” she emphasized.

Simi and her husband, fellow singer Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter, Adejare, in 2020. The couple has since kept much of her life private, occasionally sharing glimpses with fans.
