Veteran actress Olanrewaju Hassan, widely recognized by her stage name Iya Awero, has shared touching insights into her enduring relationship with fellow actor Jide Kosoko, describing him as more than just a colleague.
In a recent appearance on Behind The Fame African A-List, she spoke warmly about their shared background and history. “Jide and I are family. Though he’s younger than I am, we both come from the same Lagos-based Kosoko Morounfolu Okunoye family,” she explained.
Iya Awero reminisced about how Kosoko played a vital role in their acting group’s early days, especially as a dependable manager. “He was always there for us, ready to go anywhere we needed. Jide managed our movement and supported us,” she said.
She also credited Kosoko for his knack for writing compelling proposals that helped land them acting roles. “Once Jide wrote the proposal, it was almost a guarantee that we would get the job,” she remembered, pointing out that he and Oga Bello were both very imaginative and full of stories.
While her peers contributed intellectually to storytelling and planning, Iya Awero said her focus was always on the theatrical elements. “My main passion was the performance itself — the costumes, how they were worn, and how they complemented the scenes,” she concluded.
