Popular actor and model, Mawuli Gavor, has sparked reactions online following his recent appearance on a podcast.
In the viral video, Gavor opened up about why he quit his job at KPMG, one of the world’s biggest financial firms.
Globally recognized as part of the “Big Four” accounting firms, KPMG is a dream workplace for many fresh graduates. However, Gavor chose a different path, leaving behind the multinational company to fully immerse himself in the creative industry.
Mawuli Gavor known for his standout roles in numerous films across Ghana, Nigerian and the rest of Africa was invited as guest on the Blacvolta Podcast and by extension ended up speaking on why left KPMG.
Revealing why he left KPMG Ghana, Mawuli Gavor kick-started by saying, “I will put it like this, sometimes in life, money stops nonsense.”
Mawuli Gavor revealed that during his time at KPMG, he earned about 770 cedis monthly, roughly equivalent to ₦109,000.
He explained that while still working there, he landed a modeling gig with Maltina. At the time, he didn’t want to quit KPMG because the salary felt significant to him, so he decided to juggle both jobs.
One day, he was scheduled for a Maltina photoshoot at 6 A.M. and was assured it would be done before 8 A.M., his official resumption time at KPMG. However, the shoot dragged on until 11 A.M. due to editing and other delays.
Frustrated about getting late to work, he recalled Maltina’s team asking him, “How much do you earn in a year?” After calculating and sharing his figure, they shocked him by paying him his entire annual salary in just one day.
According to Gavor, that experience made his decision clear—he quickly resigned from KPMG to fully pursue a career in the creative industry.
Highlighting the benefits of creative professions like acting, comedy, music, or influencing, he noted that while the earnings can match or even surpass a regular 9-to-5 job, the freedom and personal time are far greater.
